Paul mentioned "EACCES, ENOMEM, ENFILE, EMFILE" as examples of the problems he had in mind. I, at least, assumed that he had in mind the type of severe, unforeseen problem that Should Not Happen, and answered accordingly.


I guess I was naive to assume that clients might have enough intelligence to take alternate action if exposed to the full spectrum of the protocol ... Perry

And that servers have enough intelligence to deal sensibly with ENFILE?
