Hi Manjunath.
Thanks for the advice, A running mac will support ext. display
immediately through System Pref./ display pref., but i am in
process of installing fresh OS X, from the time of booting i want
the display in a different Monitor/ projector.

also the menu bar is to be kept on the external display. Make sure
that the mirroring option is turned off.Now restart the machine by
popping in the disc and you see it on the external display.
