You can try this:
1. Connect the projector with mini display port while your Mac is
still power off *but connected to power supply*.
2. Open the screen lid.
3. Press the power on button and close the lid.
4. Mac will detect ext projector as primary display and screen will
appear through projector.
5. You might require an external keyboard for input.
