There could be two things. First, it could be a permissions issue. You can check the permission in the Sharing preference pane.
Second, and more likely is that you could be connected as guest. I’ve faced this issue many times that the mac by default connects to the computer it shows in the Finder as guest and the guest has no permissions except for the public folder. So try to see the connect button in Finder when you click on the mac and then login with the user and password. Then the permissions you see in the sharing tab above will take effect.
