I also have absolutely no idea - I can hazard a guess at what patches are likely
to require a reboot, but I'm also not sure which have been 'designed' to reboot
so that it maps out an explicit test path.

Of course. It's *all* about the end-user. If we're designing software for any
other focus, we're amazingly misguided.
