Well, given that GRUB is licensed under the GPL and is currently used
to boot OpenSolaris on the x86 platform, I would say this ship has
already sailed.

Yes, certain parts of OpenSolaris may not be linked with GPL components
but there is no reason I'm aware of what Bash cannot be considered part
of the "core" piece of OpenSolaris (alternatively since they're both
shells, if Bash isn't part of the core then I don't see how ksh93 would
be considered part of the core either).

Also, I'm not sure where you heard that readline was banned from
Solaris.  There was a discussion on a number of lists and there is
still on-going discussion on how to proceed.  It's possible that it
might end up in OpenSolaris or perhaps some other variant might.
