Just out of interest - whats up with booting from the CD/DVD on the MacBook Pro - I have managed that a couple of times with an original 2008.05 disk. I am using rEFIt (http://refit.sourceforge.net/) as a bootloader on my Mac - I'll have a go with my USB stick tonight and see what happens.
