If you follow this (as suggested by Andreas) link:
http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=3731 you will have it up and
running in no time (consult comment #8). What you should most probably tweak is
the findroot line.
My laptop is dual boot with windows, so the opensolaris partition comes after
windows. I experimented with grub a little bit and changed:
findroot (pool_rpool,0,a)
to
findroot (pool_rpool,1,a)
and voilla.
My question though is of an artistic nature? Any shinier splash images out
there we could use as splash screen?

I came across this as well and the only way I could get it working was to do a
clean install of a happyface enabled build. It should be possible to get it
working by tweaking a couple of files but I didn't manage it.
