Let me add EEE 900A (physically almost an 900 but Atom processor).
Works great. Excellent work there Masafumi.

Well, with some exceptions, not your fault. Like if you close the lid,
video is gone and you have to shutdown the machine by ssh from
another machine.

I wouldn't even dare on the original ssd, at least on the 900A, it is
too slow. I upgraded to a bigger (64GB) and faster ssd, and it is
pretty decent.

>Thus I have a plan to downsize my distro for Eees

The installed software is not bad, but if you could select a cluster
at install, like good old solaris, that would be best. I had to
install hundreds of megs of stuff after that like the gst plugins, the
adobe reader and flash, sun studio etc.

What is bad is the boot up time. Out of the box it took 1 min 35s
before I was logged in and got the arrow pointer.

I disabled services like basicreg, zones, xvm-vnc-config, sendmail,
set atime=off on rpool, removed from /etc/xdg/autostart the codeina
notifier, opensolaris-icons-copy, updatemanagernotifier, destroyed
rpool/dump. I think that's it.

Anyway, i get the desktop at :54s and is ready to use (arrow pointer)
at 1min 4 seconds.

Big improvement, but as I dtraced the boot, still a ton of work to be
done. On this config, Windows XP SP3 tweaked some gets me to the
desktop in 21 seconds by comparison. I'm thinking of disabling a lot
of services and running a script to enable them after i am logged in.

Another area that needs tweaking for netbooks is screen space. Is
there no way to collapse the triple menu to a single launch button? I
was able to merge the two bars into 1 at the bottom. I also enabled
subpixel smoothing, changed some font sizes, dropped the bar to 24
pixels.

As a FYI, under OS2009.06 power consumption is at 11(.0 to .3)w with
wifi enabled, and about 3h20 min on a 4400mah battery. I get about the
same (plus or minus 1 minute) under windows xp. Opensolaris did not
shutdown when the battery got close to fully drained and it went down
hard.

An easy way to disable hardware (wifi, bluetooth etc) is pretty much a
requirement too for a netbook version.
