Various unbundled products are updated in the /release repository, as
well as needed enhancements to the pkg(5) tools. The OS packages are not
modified at all.

the OS per-se but additional packages such as the Studio compilers which I
presume have a different release schedule from the OS.
You might want to look into the various options of the "pkg list" command.
This command is useful for determining what versions of a package you have installed and
what versions are in the repository (alternatively you can query the repository directly
from a web browser).
