വ്യാപാരവും നിരോധിക്കുന്ന ആദ്യരാജ്യമായിരിക്കുകയാണ് ഇതോടെ ഐസ് ലാന്ഡ്. സ്ത്രീകളെ
വില്പനച്ചരക്കാക്കാന് അനുവദിക്കില്ല എന്ന പ്രഖ്യാപനവുമായാണ് ദേശീയ പാര്ലമെന്റായ

ബിട്ടണും അമേരിക്കയും പോലെ ശക്തമായ ഫെമിനിസ്റ്റ് പ്രസ്ഥാനങ്ങളുള്ള രാജ്യങ്ങള്ക്കു
പോലും സാധിക്കാത്തത് എങ്ങനെ ഐസ് ലാന്ഡ് സാധിച്ചു? ഒന്നാമത്തെ കാര്യം അവിടുത്തെ
പാര്ലമെന്റില്പ കുതിയോളം സ്ത്രീകളാണ് എന്നതു തന്നെ. രാഷ്ട്രീയരംഗത്ത് ശക്തമായ

ലോകരാജ്യങ്ങളുടെ ജന്ഡര്ഗാപ് ഇന്ഡക്സില്(സ്ത്രീ-പുരുഷ സമത്വ സൂചിക) നാലാം സ്ഥാനമാണ്
ഐസ് ലാന്ഡിനുള്ളത്. നോര്വെ, ഫിന്ലന്ഡ്, സ്വീഡന്എന്നിവ മാത്രമാണ് ഇതിനു മുകളിലുള്ള
രാജ്യങ്ങള്. രാഷ്ട്രീയക്കാരില്മൂന്നിലൊന്നിലേറെ
സ്ത്രീകളാണെങ്കില്രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിന്റെ സ്വഭാവം തന്നെ മാറുമെന്നാണ് ഐസ് ലാന്ഡുകാര്
പറയുന്നത്. പിന്നെ, തീരുമാനങ്ങള്സ്ത്രീപക്ഷത്തു നിന്നുള്ളവയായിരിക്കും.

ശാക്തീകരിക്കുകയാണ് ചെയ്യുന്നത്, ലൈംഗിക തൊഴിലാളികള്ഇല്ലാതായാല്പുരുഷന്മാരൊക്കെ
അക്രമാസക്തരായി മറ്റ് സ്ത്രീകള്ക്കു നേരെ തിരിയും തുടങ്ങിയ വാദങ്ങളുമായി
രംഗപ്രവേശം ചെയ്യാന്അവിടെ അധികം ആളുണ്ടായില്ലെന്ന് ചുരുക്കം. 2007-ല്നടത്തിയ
അഭിപ്രായ വോട്ടടുപ്പില്82 % സ്ത്രീകളും 57 % പുരുഷന്മാരും ലൈംഗിക വ്യാപാരം
കുറ്റകൃത്യമായി പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കണമെന്നായിരുന്നു ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടത്. 10 % പേര്ക്കു
മാത്രമായിരുന്നു എതിരഭിപ്രായം.
Coalition Against Trafficking in Women എന്ന അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര സന്നദ്ധ സംഘടനയുടെ
ഡയറക്ടര്ജാനീസ് റെയ്മണ്ട് പറയുന്നു,'ഈ വിജയം ഐസ് ലാന്ഡുകാരുടേത് മാത്രമല്ല.
സ്ത്രീകളെ ലൈംഗികമായി ചൂഷണം ചെയ്യുന്നതിനെ എതിര്ക്കുന്ന എല്ലാവരുടേതുമാണ്
