Thanks for the info. As far as I know ' Chironji ' ( as I have heard it pronounced ) is used as a top dresssing for methais ( Indian sweets ) like sliced almonds and crushed cardamoms. I have come across its sale in some Delhi markets along with other seeds like pumpkin, melons, cucumber etc. Yes, shelling is rather tedious, which is reflected in the price accordingly.

Charoli fruits are also used in locally made shrikhands as toppings. While Holoptelia is also called as Monekey Biscuit and feasted by monkeys. Humans too eat it…although taking out small seeds from the papery covering becomes a tedious job. The seeds taste like groundnuts. -hemanth From: indiantreepix@googlegroups.com [mailto:indiantree...@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Mahendra Prasad Sent: Friday, February 27, 2009 2:58 PM To: drneilsoa...@yahoo.com Cc: indiantreepix@googlegroups.com Subject: [indiantreepix:8980] Re: Near Nasik - id request - tree Thanks Neil for the clarification. Are the seeds of both similar or from same family ? During season we used to eat the seeds while at school. Perhaps we were using the wrong Hindi name. --- On Thu, 26/2/09, Neil Soares <drneilsoa...@yahoo.com> wrote: From: Neil Soares <drneilsoa...@yahoo.com> Subject: [indiantreepix:8945] Re: Near Nasik - id request - tree To: mahendraprasad_...@yahoo.co.in Cc: indiantreepix@googlegroups.com Date: Thursday, 26 February, 2009, 4:27 PM Hi Mahendra, Chironji or Charoli is Buchanania lanzan.
