Dear all..,

I was surprised to see that the genus Bassia in family Amaranthaceae, as I
knew this genus as one of the genera in Sapotaceae. Most of the species of
genus Madhuca in Sapotaceae have the synonym with genus Bassia. For ex.
*Madhuca
neriifolia* (Moon) H.J.Lam (= *Bassia malabarica* Bedd.).
Now my question is WHEN and HOW this genus Bassia got tranfered to a
very different Family Amaranthaceae ? What was the taxonomic affinity to
assign this under Amaranthaceae ?

Thanks in advance for all valuable inputs.

Regards,
Gurumurthi Hegde.
