My friend the Chicago psychologist Dr Amijaya forwarded a report from Peter who has just returned from his trrip to Yogyakarta that destitute beggars and young men soliciting to sell sex were incredibly abound in Yogyakarta, at the same time the elite Radison Health Club was packed with flashed luxurious cars. Yogya now and Yogya then. I am saddened by this lopsided situation, but I am not suprised in the least. Our economy is based on "anti-economic principles" of the Berkeley Mafia who had been given free hands to manipulate our country for the past 32 years. We were penniless after the abortive communist coup d'etat in 1965 but the West offered us multibillion American dollar every year to develop Indonesia based on the foreign loan supposedly based on the inconsequential, incon- sistent DSR (Debt Service Ratio) of no more than 20% of the GDP. Now our DSR is almost 50%! It is only logical that our development program resulted in unpaid debts since our export: oil, lumber, gold, silver, diamond, minerals, seafood, gas, manufact- ured goods, etc etc has been in great shortage to sustain our budget which had been gobbled up simultaneously by the same KKN system. The Reaganomic trickle down theory has been manipulated to the hilt by the KKN resulting in the present tragic lopsided economic equity we have to witness perhaps until so many generations to come.
