The victims are survival of Indonesian military operation from 1989 to 1999. The assistance was simbolcally given to the victims in Pidie District and Sigli sub-district in the form of food packages. Schools essentials are also distributed to the orphans. The total cost of the assistance provided for the District by ICRC is around US$29,000.00. According to ICRC data, the victims comprised of 593 widows, 1.113 orphans, 477 permanently-injured and 8 rape victims. Phillippe, ICRC representative to Aceh, and head of local Red Cross Representative, dr. H. Hasanusi Abdul Wahab, expect the assistance to the Pidie District will be completed by end of January. Phillippe explains that the assistance to the victims will not only be in the form of food packages and school materials but in other types as well. Phillippe hopes that assistance can also be implemented in the East Aceh Region soon. Since ICRC arrived in Aceh, it has completed the first wave of assistance to the victims of North Aceh Region. The continuing attrocities by the Indonesian Military in the East and North Aceh District have killed more than 30 civilians in the last 3 months.
