In a press release received by Antara here Friday, the task force said the UN mission should admit the mistakes it has made since it began operating in East Timor in order not to undully prolong the problem the mission's mistakes had caused. The press release further said that P3TT had responded to the alleged improper ransackings conducted by UNAMET officers in several houses of residents in Maubara and Liquica in a search for illegal weapons. In addition, the statement made by UNAMET concerned accusations by the Forum for Unity, Democracy and Justice (FPDK) and the Commission for Peace and Stability (KPS) that two UN civil policemen were involved in the ransacking of residential houses in Maubara. In the releases by both the FPDK and KPS, what UNAMET is accusede of doing deviated from its tasks in East Timor, although UNAMET had denied the charges. For that purpose, some time ago UNAMET asked P3TT and several other organizations to correct their purported errors concerning their version of events in Maubara. P3TT noted that UNAMET had made mistakes before, such as entering the houses of residents in Maubara. Also civil policemen and political officials of UNAMET had not conducted coordination with Indonesian police. In addition, for unclear reasons, official of UNAMET had asked for the participation of foreign journalists without inquiring about the opinion of Indonesian policemen. UNAMET had admitted to entering one residential. However, in reality they entered two houses. Contrary to the claim, UNAMET had said Indonesian policemen entered the houses of residents accompanied by UN civil policemen. In reality, the Indonesian policemen did not enter houses of villagers and they only waited outside the houses, because they were confused about the ransacking actions by UNAMET in the residences.
