Immigration: Govt Not To Complicate East Timorese Going Abroad

Dili, July 8 (ANTARA)- The Provincial Government through the
immigration office will not complicate the passport process for
East Timor people who want to go abroad.

"We will not make any difficulty for East Timorese who want go
to a foreign country including Australia, in getting a
passport," said the head of the provincial immigration office,
Gatot Suharyono here Thursday, confirming rumours East Timorese
who want to go abroad will have difficulty with the immigration
process.

As long as they follow the regulation and other rules, like all
administration procedures, there will not be a problem, he said.

According to Gatot, last year his office has approved 443
passports, while from March to June 1999, the immigration office
in this area issued 467 passports for Australia.

"Most of them are going to see their family," he stressed,
adding that several of them were going abroad to avoid the
possibility of conflict before and after the direct ballot.

The immigration source said that on Thursday (08/07), there were
19 persons (10 women and 9 men) from the anti-integration group
processing their passports to go to Australia.
