"During the economic crisis, Australia's investment amounts to US$ 70 million, compared to Brasil's, which has reached US$ 120 million," Taufik said here Wednesday. Brasil is positioned as the 11th largest investor in Indonesia. While the first and second largest investors are the United Kingdom and singapore respectively. British investement in Indonesia amounts to US$ 4 billion, while Singapore reaches US $3.6 billion. Indonesia, Taufik said, should not be worried if its bilateral relations with Australia grow worse. Australia will suffer more than Indonesia because members of the Association of South East Asian Nations <ASEAN> have already united to increase intra ASEAN trade. The trade with ASEAN countries has reached nine percent of the total Indonesia trade, while that of Australia has amounted to only three percent. In addition, bilateral trade currently is in favor of Australia, and during the crisis Indonesia has suffered a US$ 1 million deficit. If the trade between the two neighboringcountries is disturbed, it is Australia who will face a drastic drop a foreign income. Furthermore, if Indonesia students in the country--currently amounting to 30,000 to 40,000 students--decide to return to their home country, Australia will suffer another US$ 600 million loss.
