ACE inner city photography workshops train young people to use cameras to express their feelings about their lives. This not only creates unique and vivid social documentary , but it empowers children who are marginalised and whose voices are often ignored. *****The Jakarta Exhibition***** The first project of the Action Group is a three-month series of photography workshops run in co-operation with Atma Jaya University and five local children's organisations. These workshops have given thirty-five street children in Jakarta the chance to express themselves using photography. It has been devised and supervised by Jonathan Perugia, a British photographer based in Jakarta. These photographs, taken on pocket cameras in the children's own environment, powerfully illustrate the breadth and intensity of these young people's experiences. The Jakarta exhibition is an exciting forum for national and international groups, governmental and non-governmental organizations working with children, local creative people, and children themselves to come together to discuss and address the children's welfare issues raised by the photographs. This will take place at the opening night and at a series of educational and discussion events running throughout the exhibition. Fifty percent of the proceeds from picture sales will be shared amongst the participating children's groups to support further arts-based projects within each organization. The balance will be dedicated to new ACE photography workshops and children's arts projects. A Child's Eye will continue to empower disenfranchised children by giving them the chance to make their voices heard. In listening to these voices we not only gain a deeper understanding of the world we share, but also take the first step towards building a richer and more caring future for all our children. ---------- SiaR WEBSITE: http://apchr.murdoch.edu.au/minihub/siarlist/maillist.html ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Didistribusikan tgl. 11 Nov 1999 jam 09:08:41 GMT+1 oleh: Indonesia Daily News Online <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> http://www.Indo-News.com/ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
