Antara journalist observed that shopping centres in Cakranegara, Mataram and Ampenen were deserted and shops were closed. Unlike earlier in the day, there was no vandalism and arson on Tuesday night. A relatively small crowd of people concentrated in a number of roads, such as Jl Erlangga, was seen vandalizing the contents of house along the road but this was not as big as Monday night. The sporadic vandalism and arson stopped shortly before Azan Maghrib (a call for evening prayers) as a crowd of people blocking Jl Pejanggik and other main roads dispersed and went home. Almost all roads leading to resedential areas were closed and guarded to anticipate the occurence of unexpected things. Only a small number of public vehicle were operating. Security personnel were seen guarding a number of shopping centres and houses of worship. An informed source told ANTARA at least 3,000 people has sought temporary refuge since the riot erupted on Monday morning. Police said only one person was killed in the riots. A total of 38 people had so far been put under police custody on charges of vandalism and arson.
