ECONOMIC TEAM PREPARING 10 PRIORITY PROGRAMS

Jakarta, Aug 29(ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Economic
Affairs Rizal Ramli said he has prepared 10 priority programs
which will become the center of the economic team`s attention to
promote national economic recovery.

"At the coordination meeting in the afternoon (Monday afternoon)
we brought up the programs for discussion and at the
coordination meeting next week we could announce the 10 final
draft programs to accelerate economic recovery," he said here on
Monday.

The ten priority programs include creating stability in the
financial sector, improving the villagers` welfare to strengthen
socio-political stability, spurring the development of macro-,
small-and medium-scale businesses, increasing farmers`
productivity and welfare, emphasizing economic recovery based on
investment rather than loans, and boosting exports.

In addition, the economic team would also focus its attention on
spurring privatization, decentralizing the economy while
maintaining fiscal equilibrium, optimizing the use of natural
resources and accelerating the restructuring of the banking and
business sectors.

He said the current cabinet was more technical in that it would
take decisions and steps all at once, while allowing the
President and Vice President to take strategic decisions.

"The ministers are authorized (to make decisions) at a technical
level only," he said.

On the Master of Settlement and Acquisition Agreement (MSAA), he
said the coordinating minister of economic affairs and the chief
of the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA) would follow
up on the evaluation process of the agreement by taking into
account inputs from the House of Representatives (DPR).

But he believed that the government would not suffer from the
agreement because it stuck to the principle of justice.
