Perhaps you mean the number if InfluxDB instances? Each instance is one influxd server, and can have 1 to many databases. The recommended number is whatever failure tolerance you need. Since they are fully independent InfluxDB servers, the actual number is irrelevant to anything but the Influx Relay process itself. At some point the write amplification to multiple servers would overload the process, but I suspect that's somewhere in the dozens or hundreds of independent InfluxDB instances.
