According to the Command Reference guide, I can ask a cache manager to
send messages to a monitoring program; the FS/CM programmer's guide (p118 the
Mariner pioctl i/f) tells me I should listen on port 2106; but when I set fs
monitor to a host and listen on port 2106, nothing comes back, even though I
flush and recache a few files but nothing....

Does anyone else use this ? Am I right in assumeing that the port is TCP
(SOCK_STREAM)? Is 2106 the right number? It clashes with the
globalmessage port in our DECathena setup. My listener works fine if I
telnet xdm001 2106 to it. I
did wonder if fs monitor checks to see if anything is listening on the port
before setting the host address, but even when I know the listener is
listening. fs monitor has no effect. AFS 3.1/pmax_ul4.2, by the way.
