Since upgrading _some_ of our RS6000's to AIX 3.2.4 we have had some
interesting problems with XStation servers and AFS.
As near as I can tell, if a 3.2.4 host is on the local net, a 3.2.2+++
XStation server will start having trouble with UDP packets. This
causes the XStation boot procedure to fail, resulting in dozens of
half-started tftpd processes.
At about the same time, a very earnest and boring conversation starts
up between the XStation server and its AFS fileserver. They throw the
same packets back and forth at top speed until the XStation server
crashes.
This is obviously not a rigorous and detailed description of the problem,
but rather an attempt to determine if there is anyone else in the world
having similar problems.
Other facts:
Except for the AFS/NFS translator code running on the XStation server,
we are using AFS 3.2b. The translator code is 3.2a so that we can mount
subdirectories of /afs (is this fixed in 3.3?).
The AFS fileservers are at AIX 3.2.2+++.
We upgraded the XStation server to AIX 3.2.4 and the problem went absolutely
almost away.
