though it's clearly possible I doubt it's even remotely practical
it doesn't seem very productive either, especially given the existance
of rsync and CVSup and similar tools; and given that there are lots of
important reasons to use those tools other than just for backups I think
it's more productive to get repository admins to just install one of them
