It depends on how complicated your directory structure is -- they'll
need to change CVS/Root in each directory (there have been perl scripts
posted here in the past to do that automagically).  Most projects just
have people do a fresh checkout when they decide they want to contribute
rather than trying to support checking out over top of an existing
tarball.
