I was neither "whining" nor "bugging the maintainers". I was merely
pointing out a fact: the problem has existed for a while and isn't likely
to be fixed, at least in the near future. Nor do I see what Richard's
statement has to do with the subject at hand. Many of the GNU programs
compile OOB on Win32. These aren't *ports*, they're core code. As is the
case with CVS; the Win32 code and executable are straight from cvshome.org,
not from one of the many ports (CVSNT among them).

Also:

[W]e felt justified in installing Unix on our computer in the 1980s,
because we were using it to write a free replacement for Unix.
Nowadays, since free operating systems are available, the excuse is
no longer applicable; we have eliminated all our non-free operating
systems, and any new computer we install must run a completely free
operating system. We don't insist that users of GNU, or contributors
to GNU, have to live by this rule. It is a rule we made for ourselves.
But we hope you will decide to follow it too.

People who whine about a free program not working under some
proprietary operating system Windows are essentially asking the
maintainers of that program to act in contravention of the above rule.

The thing to do is to bug the maintainers of the *port*, or
fix it yourself.
