First off, welcome aboard!
Second, I would recommend you skip the 1.6
install and go straight to 2.0.13
I believe there is even a couple RPM packages
built against RedHat 7.0 floating around the
list that you could get your hands on if you
let it be known that you wanted them.
Unless you absolutely have a good reason for
running 1.6, as I said, I strongly suggest you
move to 2.0 for many reasons.
