I just dl'ed Blender for my Linux box, (http://www.blender.org/cms/Home.2.0.html ) but they also have other platforms.

Their page says: Blender is the open source software for 3D modeling, animation, rendering, post-production, interactive creation and playback. Available for all major operating systems under the GNU General Public License.

I'm thinking its kinda like 3D studio Max. I dunno for sure, I haven't messed with it much yet

There is also a web site called Teaching Animation using open source tools  at http://cinepaint.bigasterisk.com/TeachingAnimationUsingOpenSourceTools if you're  interested.

I guess I always check out the open source stuff first before purchasing

Subject: [info-tech] animation software

I have a couple of students that want to work with animation (mostly web).
We used to use Adobe AfterEffects years ago.  I am wondering if I should just buy the newest version or should I buy Flash or both or something else.  There are so many different products sold now.  Thanks.
