Brad-

We still have that in place here in Fort Dodge.  Students (and staff) who want their own login to the Internet must attend an Internet Workshop before they can get access.  After students attend that workshop, their contract must be signed by both the student and the parent.  We have seen several cases where the parents do not allow their kids access to the Internet.

Subject: [info-tech] board policy - Internet use

For years now, we have had a board policy requiring parents to read and sign before their student is allowed access to the Internet.  It is again up for review this week and I am just wondering if something like this is outdated.  Since the Internet and network use has grown over the years to the extent that it is almost a requirement of students to use in order to complete built-in to course requirements, research, online courses, etc., I am wondering if the board policy could be dropped entirely.  Are any other school districts changing this policy if they have it?
