I agree.  I think we are going to buy a combination of the boards, projectors, and doc cams.  We have to be able to move things around as the price is about $3,000 per room.  Not bad if the teacher uses it but if the equipment is idle...what a waste.

Decisions have been based on price and also ease of integration.  We have had, for several years, an overhead projector in every classroom.  Projectors have become very popular in our district, but some teachers have a hard time moving to this technology.

However, with a document camera, we get the following:
1. All the features of a smartboard without the space-eating board and floorstand (some are mounted, but very few.)
2. A smaller learning curve, especially for many of our veteran teachers. They can adjust to a doc. cam. much easier than to a smartboard.  Less PD, more integration.  A win-win.
3. All the features of a classroom camera.   Image capture, video and audio capture.
4. Portability.  Everything fits on a cart, including a laptop.
5. Price.  With a smartboard, you still need a projector, same with a doc. cam.  However, we are buying Doc. Cams for around $500.  For every 3 EWB's, I can buy 3 doc. cams.  Right now we have many projectors that aren't used enough.  This adds more value to the projector, too.

Can you tell why they chose the document camera over the white board? Our staff members are making that same request here at BGHS. We are looking at placing a document camera, whiteboard or projector in each room. I would like to know what they are basing their decision on.

We have 37 smartboards in Sioux City.  We have looked at all the other types and are sticking with the Smart product.
As we use more and more of the Document Cameras, we get farther and farther away from the interactive whiteboards.
I had a teacher who had both and ended up giving his smartboard to another teacher because he never used it anymore.
for every smartboard, I can buy 3 Document cameras, or 2 doc. cameras and a projector.

Well that is kind of what we liked about the Promethean since you had to use the pen to move the cursor, that way you can place your hand on the board and it won't move when you tap the board.

We have one of the Prometheans and they are nice but totally pen based in operation. can't use your finger to navigate.

We are getting in at least 6 of the Promethean Activboards.  We currently have one of the Smartboards right now and the new ones seem to be a lot nicer.

We have a teacher here that would like to use one of these next year.  We do not have any in the district.

Can anyone recommend one that is being used now or suggestions?  Thanks.  I started looking but so many different models.
