We give out a school email address if it is needed for a class or other legitimate purpose. Kids are allowed to access Gmail. Hotmail, Yahoo mail, and pretty much any other online email interface. The reason for limiting email accounts is simple. We don't want the liability from a teenager's sense of humor.
