I just started trying my Jumpstart profile on b52 (53 is downloading as I write
this.)

I'm not sure this is the right place to post, but maybe someone can point me in
the right direction.

(Maybe someone can point me to a mailing list to subscribe to to be aware of
packages changes like this too?)

It appears that somewhere between b48 and b52, SUNWCvol (the long lived solaris
volume manager) has been replaced by SUNCrmvolmgr. At first I thought it was
just a names change, but from the pkg dependencies it has caused I"m guessing
it's a rewrite.

The old volmgr probably didn't do enough. But it did work, and it worked on
machines that only had a command line - No X desktop.

For some reason the new 'rmvolmgr' has several dependencies, some of which
imply that it may require not just X11, but GNOME. This seems to me to be a big
step backwards. Ideally at least the old functionality would be available
without a windowed desktop, Hopefully CD's will still automatically mount.

What's the rational behind this change? Is there somewhere i can go to read
about the design, and find out if a window system is really going to be
required?
