Personally I'm not happy about it, but things aren't black-and-white. There is 
always room for improvement. Better integration between the core OS and the 
Desktop is a good thing for the majority of users. Wider adoption of 
open-source 
is also seen as a largely positive shift. In the bigger scheme of things, 
increased dependencies seems almost the necessary evil.

That said, I do believe we can loosen some of the dependencies within the 
desktop. It probably just hasn't been a priority for the folks working on it.
