Paul:

The SXDE installer doesn't support upgrade from S10, and supports
only upgrade of SUNWCXall metacluster.

Please check your /var/sadm/admin/CLUSTER and it is not SUNWCXall, it is 
necessary to choose old
Solaris installer (Solaris Express item in GRUB) to do the upgrade.
