In addition to what Bart noted about the "run at first restart" solution 
in IPS, our general plans here are based on replacing sysidcfg with a 
generalized configuration model that leverages the SMF Enhanced Profiles 
project [1].  I'd recommend reading the materials there and thinking 
about how it might be applied to your problem set.
