I've read this kind of stuff before, and it makes me scratch my head. It would 
really interest me to know what kind of 
Voodoo-hoodoo-what-you-don't-dare-do-people people do in their ksh scripts that 
they fail in strange and unexpected ways.

I've written a number of ksh scripts over the years with portability in mind, 
and they've run on IRIX, HP-UX and Solaris without any problems, out of the box.
