Jim,

That I don't know...but I do know that they do have checksums of the data. I 
don't know how accessible they are, if at all.

With checksums we could compare, only transfer blocks that are different, and 
write them in place to do an update. This way it wouldn't matter where we go 
and where we came from, we only need to make the image (target in this case) 
the same as the source.
