Thank you - exactely what I mean but in few word - Delegated software and
Personal software.
The first is easy to implement - at least I have some clear picture what in
packaging and patching code should be done. Second - I strongly belive already
implemented as zones.
About packages ws tarballs.
Well we can not stop 3rd party to continue delivery soft this way. We can not
do anything about it anyway, as I alredy mention so if you like it we can not
stop you (until we put software recognition filter in tar and stop any attempts
to untar it :) ).
However packages and patches allows to maintain this software little bit better
then what usres experienced right now. At least it will be initially check for
dependancy. Also it may be patched etc.
And many Sun software - compilers etc which already delivered by packages and
patches can be allowed to be installed and used by regular users. This
unbundled software Sun developers are who actually need it first and asking for
this from last century...
Plus we can make this user level packages and patches Solaris Version
independent, as this software is naturally.
