Keith Mitchell and I talked briefly about what you ran into for the Text
Installer.
Can you do the following:
1. Verify that the Text Installer iso that you download is not
corrupted. Make sure the md5sum correspond to your download.
2. On your IBM systems, can you see whether the BIOS is up to date ???
If there is a later BIOS available, can you try BIOS update and see
whether it will make a difference.
If it still fails, please send the install_log for further examination.

If that wasn't it, to help isolate the cause, if you boot the text install
media, go to a shell, and revert your changes to those files and reboot,
does the boot proceed as normal on the VGA console, or no?
I did rerun the text installer, and it finally completed successfully,
and then I rebooted without changing anything. (Leaving the console on
the VGA)
The machine still hangs up after the grub menu with just a bunch of ....'s
I'm only in the office a few hours a day with access to the physical
console, but I'm going to try to run the text installer again today to
track this down.
I don't believe that's in as of 134, but I'm not entirely familiar with
what you're referring to (is this the $CONSOLE grub option? or something
else?)
Nope that's it. The -B console=$CONSOLE, and the coresponding edits to
the console-login service and /etc/ttydefs.
