I am successfully running opensolaris 2009.06 on an ibm x3655 w/ lsi 3442e-r. The LSI controller has long been supported in Solaris via the MPT driver.
Unfortunately, the x86 Solaris 11 express text installation disc fails to run. The installation seems to hang at "Probing for device nodes ..." Booting the system with GRUB boot menu additions "-kv" produces the following output: stmf_sbd0 is /pseudo/stmf_...@0 PCI Express-device: pci1166,1...@a, pcieb0 pcieb0 is /p...@0,0/pci1166,1...@a USB 1.1 ... ... psuedo-device: devinfo0 devinfo0 is /pseudo/devi...@0 pci0 at root: space 3a offset 0 pci0 is /p...@3a,0 Hostname: solaris Remounting read/write Probing for device nodes ... Was support for my controller dropped and is that what's causing installation to fail, or is something else going on? What else can I do to get information about the problem from the installation program?
