Like Dave, I don't think it is a good idea to add another screen to manage
entries in the nsswitch.conf file.
It's difficult to provide a user friendly interface to modifying the
nsswitch.conf file in the UI.
The purpose would be to allow the user to be explicit in the case of multiple
name services, as above.
I think that the focus in such a character-based UI would be on preventing the user from putting in unknown entries and making sure
that the context is correct. This could be done incrementally - constantly re-evaluating as the user types.
But, sInce we are going to support only combinations: DNS+LDAP and DNS+NIS, and we have an acceptable standard default
name-service/switch configuration, so we can avoid this screen and allow users to define sources more specifically later.
