I believe there has been a pretty wide consensus that this is deprecated. Tom is just turning the crank. Having worked on code that supports it, I can only opine that it should have been sooner 😊. Of course, nothing is ever really deprecated on the Internet -- We are still being paid by customers to support hardware that was built in the previous century that supports SYNC protocols that were defined before the Internet even existed.
I notice there is no mention of IPv4. Was there ever an RFC that addresses using AH and ESP with IPv4 and does it need to be addressed here? > -----Original Message----- > From: Brian E Carpenter <[email protected]> > Sent: Wednesday, December 31, 2025 4:12 PM > To: Tom Herbert <[email protected]>; int-area <[email protected]>; > 6MAN <[email protected]> > Subject: [Int-area] Re: Fwd: New Version Notification for draft-herbert- > deprecate-auth-header-00.txt > > Penguin Solutions Security Checkpoint: External email.
