I may be mis-interpreting your request, but I think we already satisfy part of it. For each class of device that needs its own distinctive sounds, go to the Notification List window and add a new 'Audible Alert' notification type.
With InterMapper, you can create multiple notifications of the type 'Audible Alert', and then attach them to different devices. For example, you can create a new notification named "Other Department", and then attach this new notification to devices in the other department. Any device assigned to the "Other Department" notification would have distinct alarm sounds.
