I have a question about IM working with nagios. I understand how to setup an IM probe to run a local nagios plugin, but for remote plugins (plugins that are installed and need to be run on a remote server) how would IM be able to transport the status data to and from the remote server?
Would you have to use the nagios NRPE add-on or is there something built-in to IM that takes care of the transport issue already? I suppose the check_by_ssh plugin could work as well but I am more interested in something with less overhead than SSH.
There is nothing built in to IM that allows you to run remote plugins directly. I just read the NRPE description, and it seems like it could probably be made to work, but I haven't tested it.
If you try it, I'd be interested in hearing how it comes out. (I'll try to find a few minutes to try it myself, too.)
