Tim,

InterMapper doesn't have a feature that works exactly as you are describing. However, it does have a few features that should allow you to accomplish something similar.

Probably the most useful feature to avoid "flapping" notifications is the Delay that you can set for a notification. If you set devices with particular invasive notifications to have a delay of a few minutes, then you will only hear from them if they stay down for the entire period of the delay.

Another useful feature to avoid repeat notifications is Acknowledgment. You can tell InterMapper that you know something has gone down, and are working on it, and even include some scheduling of how long you expect it to take.

I am going to pass your comments about "automatic flap detection" on to our development queue as an enhancement request. That will put it in front of the developers to consider for addition to a future version. Let us know if you have any other suggestions or questions.

Thanks,
Ian

All,

Hopefully someone has run across this before. We have Intermapper sending emails to our phones for devices that go up and down. The issue we had recently, though, was that we had a wireless link that didn't go down, but was dropping packets because of interference. Because of this, we got literally dozens of notifications on our phones, which can get expensive.

In Nagios, there's a way to turn on flap detection, so that if a device goes up and down a certain number of times within a certain time span, it stops sending notices.

Is there a way to do this in Intermapper as well?
