Great thread and coincidental for we are looking at disaster recovery with a second (and maybe third) Intermapper server in different buildings.
There are over 4 gigs of stuff (old chart data and logs) but only around 15 megs in maps and maps (backups). And another 10 megs in web pages, icons etc. I have archived some data already. Our intent at the moment is to use FRS to replicate files to a second server which Intermapper is installed with it's own licence but not running but without chart/log data. When the main IM dies, NOC pers would turn on the secondary. Whenever the main comes back up, we would abandon anything on the backup IM, turn it off and bring the main back online. We would suffer the loss of chart data/logs for the period of time the main Intermapper is down. Having said that, is there any particular reason to replicate the disabled maps and backups? Is there a problem having a second licensed server and not using the license from the main server? Can you see anything wrong with this idea? Any improvements? We will be implementing "something" shortly to test. Kevin -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of William W. The actual chart history (datapoints) is stored in the Chart Data folder, but those files will be recreated anew if you don't back them up. So, if you don't care about the chart history, don't back up the Chart Data folder. > Any other folders we don't really need to backup? If you have a typical system (i.e. one without custom probes, custom icons, or custom web pages) you should back up these files and directories: InterMapper Settings/InterMapper License.txt InterMapper Settings/Preferences InterMapper Settings/Maps/ InterMapper Settings/Maps (Disabled)/ InterMapper Settings/Maps (Backups)/ If you care about log files, you should also back up: InterMapper Settings/InterMapper Logs/ All the other folders in the InterMapper Settings directory will be re-created by InterMapper the next time it starts up, if they don't exist, with their default contents.
