Manickaraja and Andrey Thank you for bringing this up. You have laid out some pretty good details for this feature request. I'd also like to be able to select from pre-configured database retention policies, or it could at least inherit the retention policy assigned to the device itself.
IM Developers: In an early v.5 beta, automatic creation of charts existed in basic form. Did you hit a major road block in trying to implement this feature, or did it just end up with a lower priority? Is it already on your roadmap? While adding a device after successful first probe, IM can learn its CPU, memory, flash/Disk and interfaces and it can popup a window with all the details where you can select the interface to create the charts. Or It can popup a window with CPU, memory, Flash /Disk and interface details where we can have a option of selecting resource to create chart. By default CPU, memory, Flash /Disk can be checked ON, rest of the interface we can choose. Finally we should have manual options also for creating charts for existing devices, where we did not create the charts. The last one will be very useful for 4.X users migrating to 5.X Regards Manicka Raja Arumugam A R I C E N T -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Andrey Gordon Sent: Wednesday, October 29, 2008 6:36 PM To: InterMapper Discussion Subject: Re: [IM-Talk] New Feature request Note: I took out support@ so it does not generate an extra ticket. Second that. The only question is, say, Cat4509 full of 48port cards. Do you want 200 charts - one per interface? I don't, plus I don't need to know what's going on on those interfaces anyway most of the time. I noticed that CPU history is collected anyway (even if you don't setup a chart for it). Maybe it's a feature of the DB, because, I know that that was not happening before (v4...). Also, in case of CPU, I usually gather most important CPU counters on one chart to save on screen space and for trend observation, etc... I'd say, in the right click menu, it would be useful to have a "generate charts" option and to have a sub-menu where one could select what to generate: I see something like: Generate Charts --->|-All Counters (including all interfaces) |-Routed Interfaces |-Unnumbered Interfaces |-CPU |-Memory Usage (Used with Total set for upper limit) |-Disk/Flash Usage (Used with Total set for upper limit) That is what I can think of the top of my head. Or maybe analyze the probe for 'chartable counters' and dump them into that submenu. That would be nice. PS. I hope my 'menu' keeps it's formatting properly. __________________________________________________________ Andrey Gordon | Integrity Interactive | Network Engineer | +1.781.398.3518 > From: Manickaraja Arumugam <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Reply-To: InterMapper Discussion <[email protected]> > Date: Wed, 29 Oct 2008 15:56:48 +0530 > To: "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Cc: InterMapper Discussion <[email protected]> > Subject: [IM-Talk] New Feature request > > Hi Dartware, > > > 1.
