V6 is not a hindrance to V5 and is at least 9-12 months away (for an alpha).
I'm just looking at it from the PoV of someone with a lot of legacy code to upgrade. If I knew Unicode support was on the way, I'd be hanging out for that before I did anything other than maintenance work on that code.
