The Center for the Study of Slavery and Justice at Brown University
invites applications for a one-year position (2014-2015) as the Ruth
J. Simmons Post-Doctoral Fellow in Slavery and Justice. The Center
is devoted to interdisciplinary scholarly research around issues of
racial slavery, contemporary forms of injustice, as well as freedom.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in any humanities or social science
discipline (or will obtain a Ph.D. by June 2014) and work on
questions concerning the historical formations of slavery in global
or comparative terms; issues concerning contemporary forms of
indentured servitude; or philosophical, historical, and theoretical
questions concerning slavery, justice, and freedom. Applicants
working on questions of gender, contemporary racial formations,
public history, and memory are welcome.

The successful applicant would be expected to offer one course in a
department to be agreed upon at the time of hire. He/she will be
expected to be a regular participant in the Fellows seminar at the
Cogut Center for the Humanities.
The fellowship stipend will be $45,000- $50,000.
